1993 Suzuki DT115. Does the rectifier/regulator have any bearing on a tach? Does it serve some purpose seperate from the tach. My tach is not working, and I was told to check the values of the rectifier that are in the manual for a diode check. The values on mine were only a forth or less than were posted in the book. I was told to replace it. I did, and I see no difference. Is there someone outthere that has had some experience with this ?

Although I am not familiar with this motor, I can tell that the rectifier /regulator is normally part of the alternator system that produce the DC current to recharge your battery.
Since it is directly "connected" to the crankshaft of the motor, it is related to the RPM and therefore it "might" be used for RPM indicators or some other "timing" function.

I wouldn't replace any electrical part unless I have strong reasons to believe it is defective. normally they are expensicve and non-returnable.
good luck.
frank

Thanks Frank!
A lesson I just learned. All of the values on my rectifier/regulator were way below those listed in the repair manuel. I installed a new one but it did not change the RPM problem that I continue to have. It did however fix the charging problem that I had. So, I guess alls not lost. Happy New Year!

For what it's worth my tach would go haywire when my rectifier went bad.

The tach gets its signal from the stator or in particular the wires which are sent to the rect/reg. That AC signal is then rectified and there's the DC current for charging the battery. So if it's charging fine, then you should be able to get a good tach signal.

Check all the jumper wires between the gauges, make sure it is getting power. Make sure there isn't a short in the tach sender.

Thanks to everyone for their input on this problem.I've been on this off and on for two weeks. I'm no closer now than when I started. All of my VOM readings are where they belong but still no tach signal. I've even installed another new one with the same results. Paul from Brownspoint Marine has also tried to help. The techs from Faria have tried also, and they don't know where to go from here. Maybe I'll pull the tach out and put a large cup holder in its place.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL FROM SUNNY(79 DEGREE)FLORIDA!!!

Cup holder looks fine to me, If the margarita start spilling over, you are over-reving the engine and must slow down inmediatlely :) ;)
