Re: rectifier? what does that do?
The rectifier turns alternating current generated by the stator coil set into pulsed direct current. The battery takes the pulsed DC in and levels out the pulsations to create straight line direct current. It charges the battery. If the rectifier is shot the battery will not charge and while a bad rectifier will not stop the engine from turning over by itself , if the battery is dead because of the bad rectifier, the motor will not turn over.
