I am replacing the rectifier on my 1984 Force 85 - old rectifier has no +/-/AC markings but I noted wiring positions relative to rectifier (top, bottom, left, right)...New rectifier clearly marked for terminals but I don't know if "top" on old rectifier is "top" on new one - anyone have a color-coded wiring chart that shows which color wires go to which rectifier terminals?

Thanks much!!!!

How are the terminals on the new rectifier labeled?
What do they say?

Re: Rectifier Wiring Force 85 - Help!

The new rectifier is labeled AC upper left;AC bottom right; + bottom left; no label upper right (when the unit is oriented so the AC labels are right-side up:

AC

+ (nothing)

AC

the problem is the lack of these labels on the old rectifier, so I don't know if it was installed in the same orientation or not. what I need is a chart that identifies the wires by color and which connections they go to

many thanks

The 2 yellow wires (or they may be 2 green/yellow wires) get hooked up to the 2 AC terminals.

There are several wiring versions out there.

Are the other 2 wires red and purple?
Or red and grey?
Or red and black?
Or are they both red?

The red wire connects to the "+" terminal. And is to charge the battery.

Re: Rectifier Wiring Force 85 - Help!

Looking at a photograph I took before removing the old rectifier, I can see the two green/yellow wires hooked up to the AC terminals; the one on the bottom AC terminal is paired with an additional purple wire. I have a red wire to connect to the + terminal and a remaining black wire to connect to the unmarked terminal.

Many thanks - the old rectifier was oriented upside down relative to the markings on new one. If I had installed the new one rightside up relative to its printed markings, I would have gotten the positive and negative poles switched-

The black is a ground connection.

The purple sends a signal to the tach.
If you don't have a tach, you don't need it. Just tape it in a safe location.

) fyi- some models had 2 red wires to the battery, and no black)

Double check the charging circuit after you get it running, by checking voltage at the battery terminals.
