Well I finally got my boat out on the water and it did great but about two hours into the day I noticed my amp guage was reading 17volts. Does that mean my new rectifier went out and if so what would cause that to happen? I have a 1972 100 horse evinrude number 100293r.

Re: Rectifier???

I also have bought a new tach for my boat and was wondering which setting to put it on. It has a 12pole 6pulse setting and a 10pole 5pulse setting. All help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

Re: Rectifier???

I think you have an unregulated charging system. Your voltage will rise like that if your running motor with no electrical load(lights, radio, fishfinder, ect). My 1996 88 special has a rectifier but no regulator and when I see the volts get to high I run lights or something to help bring voltage down. I'am in the process of looking into converting to a regulated system

Cool so it sounds like everything is working properly than. It wont hurt to run it with it charging @ almost 17 volts?

Re: Rectifier???

17 volts after 20 minutes of running is normal. You should keep an eye on the water level in the battery periodically through the summer. Your tach should be set on 6, as you should have a 12 pole stator.
