will a bad rectifier cause the motor to cutout above 3000 rpm if not what would, 1977 johnson 115

I dont know if it will do that, But I'am replacing a faulty rectifier on my 83 200 because it is not fully charging my batteries. a simple way to check the rectifier is to test the voltage at the battery. if you have 12.6 At idle & 13.4 or higher at 2000 rps's odds are that sucker is fine. hope i helped.

A bad rectifier should only effect your tach/charging system. You could have some fuel or ignition probs but you will have to trouble shoot both to find out which.

well i found my problem stater looks like someone took a torch to it dont know how it was putting out anything hope it was hooked up right cant find a diagram to check
