My 1994 225 Johnny has a one inch red lever near or on the primer solinoid. I can't find it in the owner's or shop manual. It moves from 12 to 6 oclock. Right now, it is turned all the way down. Can anyone tell me what it is used for and where it should be set?
Stalker

Its a Manual primer in case the electric selonoid go out. It should be parallel to the selonoid during normal operation. Like this:

Thanks, as always, you guys are in the know.
I take it you turn it up and down manually if the electric primer fails.
Stalker

Affirmative Nightstalker. If you turn the red lever 90* from where it is in Rick's foto and pump the priming bulb, it will inject raw fuel into the carburetors behind the venturii.

c/6
Hooty

isnt this red valve replacable with a valve with an adapter where you can connect a can of engine tuner? What is the proper technique for using engine tuner on this valve???

OMC engine tuner instructions.

Start engine and get it up to temp while running on the hose.

Stop engine and remove cover.Leaving the primer lever in the normal 'run' position, connect the engine tuner fitting to the primer schrader.

Start engine and run at idle.Inject one 2 sec burst of engine tuner waiting 2 sec between bursts for each cylinder. Then after a few seconds inject a final burst for 20 sec.or until engine stalls ,whichever happens first, and then immediately shut engine off.Let sit for 8-16 hours and then run engine for 15 minutes at around 1500 rpm.Best to follow this up with putting boat in water and giving the engine a good blowing through by opoerating for 30+ minutes.

Depending on how much carbon has accumulated in your engine ,bare in mind that it is advisable to clean and inspect sparkplugs after this procedure or perform the decarb procedure just before you plan on replacing your sparklugs as fouling can occur from dislodged carbon deposits.

I had this red lever replaced last week, the mech called and said there was fuel leaking from it. The shaft has a split about 3/4 of its length, it was also causing a bad idel situation on my 1991 40HP evinrude.

Phototom,
I had the same prob. split primer lever. The real prob.was that every one the dealer had in stock was split while still in the package.Doesnt the prime lever have to be in manual position to inject any thing through the valve ??
