Here's to all who think buoys merely mark a suggested route....

Busy day, no wake channel - ends in narrow passage marked by red buoy on right (heading inland). Pretty much forces single file traffic. Bozo in go-fast at end of line gets tired of idle speed and decides to go around wrong side of buoy. Peace is shattered by the sound of his lower unit being ripped off by rocks at about 40 kt.

Waves down passing traffic asking for tow - turns out his VHF is not in the boat (although his 600 Watt stereo seemed to be in good order) and he can't call for help.

Not being in any immediate danger, nobody would go near the idiot although we did call the CG for him to report a disabled craft. We should have also reported a disabled brain....

You have to wonder some times.

Wonder what his 'cool' quotient is now?

Re: Red Right Returning

A week before last I took a late trip over to the islands. I haven't been there in a while and when I got to the channel (6mph) I found the channel to be very shallow. This was at high tide. I saw a dredger anchored of to the side so I figured the channel filled in from the last storm. After making it to the other end of the channel I made a quick pass by the islands and not wanting to get stuck I turned around and started back through the channel. It was starting to get dark and the boat in front of me must have thought they could cut across the dog leg of the channel so they would not have to go 6mph. Up goes the throttle and then thud. As I am putting around the last pylon I here a yell “hey bud do you think you can give us a tow?” Here I am driving a 1973 19” speed boat, no trim and my depth finder says I have 2.5 feet below my hull (I need 3’) and I am in the channel. The other boat was a 25’ cabin cruiser that was about 50 or 60 yards off the channel. I first laughed and told them not a chance. They then asked if I could call someone (all I had was my cell phone). I told them I could call the Coast Guard but I knew of no one else that would come out at 9:00pm to tow them off. They said that's O.K. we will figure out something. I figured that the last people they wanted to see was the CG after a day of partying at the islands and with the tide going out I am sure they saw them soon enough.

Re: Red Right Returning

It just never amazes me how some people are so stupid that they thing they are immune to underwater rocks/hazards.
I'm glad I have paitence when it comes to that. I'd rather go slow and enjoy the scenery and get to where I am going without any incidences, then to just up and at em attitude.
I have enough bad incidences, I don't need my stupidity to get the best of me(espicially out on the water).
