so if i wanted to re deck my boat and gel coat it or use durabeck or something (only assuming stringers and bulkheads are ok, even if they arent its not much more in material) how much money would it cost me roughly? How many sheets of plywood? how many gallons of resin? How much fiberglass? and then the gel coat, durabek, and or paint? Im just trying to get a ballpark idea of how much the materials in total it would cost. Manuel would be doing the labor.lol
How many hours have people put into doing just that? Can it be done in just a couple or a few weekends?
i went and pulled the speakers out from under the dash and the foam behind them is wet but the wood is solid(put my foot down there and pushed and kicked). the ski locker area is also somewhat rotton. also in front of the engine outside of the motor box is also soft. The front engine mount is solid the stringers on both sides of the engine are also solid. And the transom is also very solid.
What foam would you use to replace what was taken out? How much is that and where can you get it?
as far as the seats are the bases just glassed over the existing deck? same goes with the under dash bases and the front bow seating bases?
well thanks for reading as any help will be very appreciated.

Do a search on "soft spots" or "rotten deck" and most of your questions will be answered, plus many more you didn't know you had.

Re: redo deck price

I have an 87' Bliner and am doing the deck and part of one stringer. How much it will cost and how long it will take is totally dependant on you. If you shop smart less expensive than if you don't. If you get in and get it done you could probably do just the deck in a weekend. If your like me and pittle fart around it will take much longer.

Alot of people use the pink or blue foam from Home depot.

DO NOT use Home depot or any other retail store fiberglass resin or mat. I found out the hard way that this stuff is okay for the average glassing job but not for your boat restore. Alot of guys on here get their supplies from uscomposites.com

As far as how many sheets of ply you will need, that depends on the size of your vessel. just measure the deck in there now and get enough to do that.

The seat bases in mine were glassed to the deck and I had to cut them out. I am rebuilding them but if you can cut them out and keep them you should be able to glass them back in.

Welcome to iboats and good luck!

Welcome to iBoats!

Re decking a boat is not Brain Surgery but... I can become a LOT of work. What did you do to determine your Transom was solid and sound. If you did NOT core sample it then you can NOT be certain. As for costs there is no way to be sure but a good Guess-ti-mate would be assuming JUST the deck and NO Stringer or Transom $500 for a deck of your size and a couple of LONG weekends. BuT... I seriously doubt that will be the case. You should plan on remoing and replacing the foam, stringers and transom.

Re: redo deck price

you say blue or pink foam from home depot thats fine i can get that from work( i do construction so some materials i can come by for free) do they glue it down or just lay it in? im assuming you would just cut it to fit and keep stacking and cutting and stacking and cutting.
as for my transome no im not positive its good, but pounding on the inside and the outside sounds very solid. You're correct about core samples though(you cant be sure until youre sure) my motor is out now awaiting repair from a cracked block. so now would be the time for sure if i did have to get into the stringers and transom. Heck i could even pull the gas tank and make sure its nice and clean.
Am i in denile?...good question...no answer...hah
Yes i am afraid of opening up a can of worms and taking FOREVER to put back together because there's always something preventing me from working on it.

If you have stringers, NO, if NOT then probably. If you have stringers the foam will add SOME structural integrity to the hull but NOT the majority of it.
