One of my boats needs stringers replaced but the transom is solid as a rock still and I"m thinking about changing motors and the outdrives holes are different. My question is are solid transoms hard to get out? Is there any kinds of chemicals you can use to loosen plywood from the inside skin of transom? Still debating on this but I don't know if I can find a hull for the motor I got for a cheap price . Thanks for any info

WHY would you want to remove a Sound transom,.????

All you have to do is,......
Cut some plywood Plugs that nearly fit the Hole,+ Epoxy them In Place,.......
Then,... Cut the Hole you Need.........

Re: redoing transom

The motor I want to put in the boat is a mercruiser 888 with a 302 ford, it had a 1985 3.0 with Stringer drive in it before. Thanks Bondo, I thought about doing what you said before, but didn't know if I could trust its strength.I haven't worked with epoxy any and did'nt know if it had enough strength to support something like that. Thanks though, and yes that would be a lot less work. :p

the good wood will be tough to get out, you will probably have to splinter it.
the right way would be to cut the inner glass and the plywood several inches larger than the exisisting hole on each side from the inside, being carefull not to cut into the outer layup. cut a new plywood patch that fits well, epoxy it in and reglass the inside, then glass the outside like any other patch, cut hole , add I/O
