I am in the process of rebuilding my V4 crossflow and I am inspecting the reed valves.
I notice they seem to be laying good and flat when looking at them from the crankcase side, but when I look at them from the carberator side while holding it up to the light I can see some are not laying a flat as others. The gap is very small and takes only a slight touch to close them.
How tight a seal are reed valves. The motor was running fine before I tore it down. I discovered the broke ring while replacing the water deflectors as a routine maintenance.
Carbon build up caused the ring failure

oscar boy,

Remember, the crankcase has a vacuum on it. Plus, they move back and forth.
