Refrigerator on-off

Fridge was working great and left on shore power. Guy was waxing the boat for me and unplugged the shore power and left it unplugged. I noticed and plugged back up, now the fridge just tries to start but doesn't... does this over and over every 10 seconds or so.
Where do I start to diagnose? It's a small 20x20 inch or so under the counter top type. I'd say it's the original. Boat has 325 total hours.

Thanks,
Nick

Try shutting the refrigerator down with the on off switch on the fridge. Wait about 20 minutes then turn the fridge on to medium power.

Re: Refrigerator on-off

The refrigerant pressure between the high and low side needs to equalize, the compressor can't start under load, once the pressures equalize it will start. The process takes a while because of the small orifice between high and low sides, 20mins will do it for sure, but it won't take that long.

Re: Refrigerator on-off

I suspect that the problem is not with your refrigerator..... was the power off long enough to drain your batteries? Is your fridge 12v only or ac/dc. Are all the breakers on... did your the breaker for your charger trip? Is it possible that your power supply or charger doesn't have enough power to overcome the load of the dead batts AND start the fridge too

If it has tried every 10 mins or so and not started then any equalizing that needed done has already happened....

I've left them sitting for 24 hours sometimes for them to "re-set" themselves. Camping trailers, home fridges, bar fridges etc etc.

Re: Refrigerator on-off

The manual says if I have the generator option I have the AC/DC frige and that would be me. I'm sure the batteries were drained because the shore power was off for about 4 days. When I got to the slip I just plugged the power back in and went aboard. I heard the frige cycling on and off. I went back a few days later and the batteries were fine, they started the engine with no problem.
I remember many years ago having a starter capacitor go out in a home frige, it would try to run but could not start. I wonder if this frige has a stater cap? Anyone been in to a Norcold unit?
Thanks,
Nick

Re: Refrigerator on-off

went into one last summer, It was a 12 vdc/110 vac..... I remember a transformer and a complex relay with a bunch of wires that acted as a transfer switch to change between ac and dc..... surely there had to be a start cap but I can't remember it off the top of my head.... Mine had a bad (shorted out) compressor.... I do remember that the compressor ran on 24v and I think that was 24vac but not sure on that part

Guy was waxing the boat

How much did he charge you to wax you're boat? I need mine waxed and really don't want to do it myself, so I'm just wondering what it might cost me. Thanks.
