Hello folks,
I've been restoring this boat for the last couple of years. I have rebuilt the transom, stringers, and floor, and done a good deal of cosmetic work as well. Having no previous boating building experience, I have had my share of dumb mistakes and oversights, but I have enjoyed the process and have a nice functional boat that has logged a lot of fun trips and fishing! Thanks to this forum I have gained a good deal of information along the way that has greatly aided the process
This spring I have a few new things on the docket:
-I am trying to figure out where to put my kicker motor. Currently I just have it sitting on the transom next to my main motor. I bought a kicker motor mount, but with the transom dimensions, the only place I can find to mount it would be to the port side of the main transom section. I would need to move the stern eyes if i did, so wanting to get some more definitive info before i start the process.
-regarding the transom. The wood thickness is 1 1/2" thich. I followed Woodonglass information on building it. With the glass and the splashwell it is right around 2" thick. The original motor was an Evinrude 50, and I have replaced it with a much larger Merc 115 that weight 80lbs more. My transom is connected to the rest of the hull with the tabbing as per the instructions, but there are no brackets or anything. I have read a lot of conflicting information on what standards are for the transom, but just want to make sure that I'm not asking for problems. For what it's worth in the 2 summers I have seen no flexing, and checked to see if it was taking on water and it appears to be completely dry.
-Cuddy cabin-I am thinking of installing some type of headliner to cover the ceiling. It is pretty funky looking. Does anyone have any ideas on how best to mount this and what to use. I was thinking some type of marine vinyl with a foam back. I have seen mountings similar to this where there are wooden supports that follow the fiberglass ribs. I was also hoping to mount a dome light in the middle of the cabin, but would need some additional structural support if I were to do this.
Thanks for you time and answers!
Happy boating
Ian
