registering without title or hin#

I've got a 14ft alum jon boat that I got a few months ago but I lost the title to it and it does not have a hin number any were on it, so how do I go about getting it registered without proof of ownership.

go back to the people you bought it from and have them get a replacement title.

I dont know how to get a hold of him, he was selling the boat because he was moving and he could not take it with him. Is there any other possible way, a guy at work said I could tell them it was a home made boat but I dont know about that.

Rather than provide false information on a government form, why not start by contacting the office which handles boat registration and see what they say? In my state for example, they have very clear and written instructions right on their website which addresses what to do in your situation. Since you didn't put in your profile where you are from, I can't look it up for you.

Google something like.....your state + how to register a boat

I did the home built thingy with my 12' tinny. Call and ask for the requirements. Does it have state registration numbers? If so you might take them off else they would tie the boat to the previous owner.

The Bow registration numbers should give you enough information to back reference to the tittle.

Numbers > Registration > Owner > Tittle

The Tittle should have been transfered into your name a few months ago. :facepalm:

Sitting on a title is just a can of worms.
If the title is NOT in your name, you are NOT the owner!
It is not Titled in your name and it is not registered to you.
If you get stopped, you may need to prove you don't have a stolen boat!
