Are all motors with just rectifiers, as opposed to regulator/rectifiers, unregulated charging systems? Such as my 91' 70 rude??
Mark,

What do you mean with break-up? If you're just in the water with the boat, and you can't reach higher then 5700 rpm, that might be because the engine/boat combination, the prop, the setup of the outboard and the load in the boat, doesn't permit more rpm's at WOT. In you're case it looks fine.
The rev. limiter has a different purpose. It prevents damage on your engine caused by f.i. a runaway condition while running on muffs (not on a load), blowout/ventilation of your prop while boating, that kind of things.

EDIT: (sorry, saw later I rementioned some things rickdb1boat said earlier)Originally posted by Mark42:
Thanks Seahorse and Rick,

The OMC manual indicates 6p, so I will stay with that for now. It is the rpm limit in the power pack spec that is throwing me off. OMC says 6700 rpm, but I break up at 5700 or 5800. So I thought something is wrong.

And what is wrong with the wing nuts? Not a good enough contact for the higher amperage charge?

Mark.
