Has anyone heard of a Regulator/Rectifier on a 1992 force 120 hp going bad and causing the stator to lose high side output? I had a local mechanic tell me he has seen this a couple times, but I was just wondering if anyone else has seen this.

Re: Regulator/Rectifier

A faulty regulator/rectifier cannot cause a stator's charge coil to fail.

A faulty regulator/rectifier remaining attached to the stator can cause anything from a No Spark condition to a high-speed miss.

Simply disconnect the stator's Yellow wires from the regulator/rectifier to isolate the regulator/rectifier out of the circuit. If your problem ceases, replace the regulator/rectifier. If it remains, leave the regulator/rectifier disconnected until you find the issue.

Check our troubleshooting guide on this ignition here:

Re: Regulator/Rectifier

WILL NOT ACCELERATE BEYOND 3000-4000 RPM:
1. Disconnect the Yellow wires from the stator to the rectifier and retest. If the engine now has good spark, replace the
rectifier.

Stright from the book!! Thank You very much! I am replacing R/R Today and I will let you know!!

Make sure you disconnect it to verify before replacing it.

Definitely post results.

Re: Regulator/Rectifier

ok...replaced regulator and took it ot the water. I got up to 4000 rpm's this time but I had an intermitten miss. While it was missing, I checked spark, no spark on #1. Waited til it cleared up and tryied to go to WOT then started missing again and went to about 3800 rpm's. I got to looking at my wiring, and the Trigger Switch wires are awfully soft and rubbery feeling, like they are burnt inside. My neighbor is the one that is letting me borrow the DVOM and its too late to go get it so I will test those wires on sunday. In the mean time, do you think the trigger could be causing this? How should I test those wires?

Re: Regulator/Rectifier

ok...So i just ordered a new trigger switch. I think I am going to replace the entire ignition system. All I have left is the coils and plug wires. After that, it has no choice but to run good!!
