I pulled my OMC Cobra engine, and was able to do so fairly easily without pulling my outdrive. This is my first time, so I'm looking for experienced advice here.

Everything I have read so far indicates that if I pull the outdrive, I need to use the alignment tool to align the drive and engine.

My question is, if I get the engine back in without pulling the outdrive, should I still pull the outdrive and do the alignment??

I am not moving the engine mounts at all.. I am replacing the engine (cracked block).

Thanks

Re: ReInstalling OMC 5.7 Cobra - Need Alignment Tool?

I would say it's more important to use the alignment tool after pulling the engine than pulling the drive. All the adjustments are done at the motor mounts where as if you pull just the drive you wouldn't have changed any adjustments. If you don't check it then you run the risk of wearing out the coupler and you will be pulling the engine out again. I understand you didn't move the mounts but how do you know it was aligned properly to start with?

I agree with Bob.....
We're talking Thousandths of an Inch........
Even Without moving the Mounts, it Needs to be Realigned...........
