My son Accidentally dragging our 15 foot tinner up the boat ramp 3 weeks ago was a blessing in disguise.
first, it got me to clean and refinish the outside of the boat. ( Idea blatantly stolen from Jasoutside)
then, i wanted to build a wooden platform in the front section of the boat, the PO already had one in the back section and in the stern as well. After building the front section, i noticed a HUGE weight difference between the 2 sections. (probably because of waterlogging over the years and tons of coats of stain and varnish as well.
the difference overall totaled 64 pounds, very significant in a small tin fishing boat, worth rebuilding from scratch.
Finally, the old plywood transom had seen better days and needed to say bye bye and get rebuilt as well.........
I think it was the original transom put on by Prince Craft in 1987..............
add 2 new Tohatsu motors (6HP and 9.8HP) and WOW! what a difference!!!!
I also added Guide Poles to the trailer and new C rated tires ( a upgrade from the old B tires) and Viola!!! what a huge huge difference.............
the ONE big mistake i did do, was after sanding the bare transom and repainted it, i had put only 2 coats of spar Varnish on the new Oak Transom and a buddy told me i needed at LEAST 5 coats Minimum, to make it last..........
so the last 3 coats were added with the transom in place............
at that point, i had no choice, since i had also changed out all the screws and bolts with new SS hardware, and 5200 it all in already, but it came out pretty mint.............
so here are some pics already, finished pics will be shot tomorrow ............ not like the wifey will let me go out or anything............
