I am sure lot of you out there have had ample experience in runnig 2 or 4 stroke engines. How does the reliability record look for a new Yamaha, 2 stroke , 90 hp on a 17ft Glastron. I had an I/O for a couple of yrs and had enough nightmares. I plan to give it extra care.I also plan to use it all year round, since sw florida allows me to do so.
Thank you .

OK:
Reliability is about equal between the two,but for the extra bucks of the four stroke,it's well worth it in the long haul with the fuel economy savings, & noise reduction. I think the warrentee is also better on the four stroke engines.
If penny pinching is your priority though, the two cycle 90 hp. is still one of the best going for yamaha.Remember this: Yamalube costs about $20.00 per gal. Thus adding this amount to every
48 to 50 gal. of gasoline.

Re: Reliability on Yamaha 90 hp 2 stroke !

1stoutboard I just pick up this year a 18ft cc sea pro that is powered by a 90 hp yamaha 2 stroke 2003 so far knock wood the engine runs great I have about 20 hours on the outboard and I have not run into any problems .The engine came with a stock prop that is 13 1/4 x17k I just purchase a replacement prop by michigan match 13 1/2 x15 my wot is 5200 rpm at speeds around 36 mph .the lower pitch prop did improve hole shot but lost about 2 mph at top end. I am using the yamaha lube and ring free additive a case of lube was about $75.00 a case I know it a little more than other lubes as for the extened warrany cost was $875.00 from yamaha which I don't think it was a bad price . I have not read any bad reviews on the 90 hp yamaha or any mid-range engine that is in this class

Thank you for your input folks. I ordered the boat 10 days ago. The extended warranty was about the same as yours lonewolf. So you were getting about 38mph then before you changed your prop! I was reading the manual online for the 2003 90hp. It mentioned that you can use any other tcw-3 2 stroke oil if Yamalube is not available. I know that Yamalube is not cheap by all means. $6.00/qt. others that are NMMA certified are accepted by Yamaha also and less expensive.6.00/gallon for supertech from Walmart.
