Reliable Sure Lube Axle

I have a Reliable Sure Lube axle on my new pontoon trailer. The trailer manual doesnt address anything about the axle.

How does it work? How often/much grease do I add? As I add new does the old come out somewhere?

On the back of the spindle is a relief hole, you pump grease till it comes out the hole.
My sure lube equiped trailer has a decal on the forward crossmember that gives an illustration,

Thanks. I thought that's how it worked, but didn't want to start pumping in grease and blow out the rear seal.

I've had the Sure Lube axles under my boat trailers for 11 years, towed more than 20,000 miles.....and have never repacked a wheel bearing. I'll give the hub a few shots of grease every few months and before/during a long trip.

If you don't pump a little grease into them every once in awhile, the grease discharge hole on the backside of the torsion arm can become blocked with a hardened grease plug. If the grease hardens, then it is possible to pop/blow the rear grease seal when pumping in new grease.

Thanks for the tip. I'll make sure I pump some grease in there once a month or so.

What type of grease do you use?

19 Years here on the same bearings with no repack. I use Walmarts Marine Grease. Couldnt be happier. I pump it in the spring, mid year and once before I put it in storage. Usually takes 2-3 pumps to have some old stuff pop out the back. Wipe clean and your done. When I initially bought the boat, I learned from the PO about the axle and his maintenace. Did some searches and when I got it I pumped all new grease into it. I made sure I had a differant color and it took about 2.5 tubes for all 4 wheels.
