Remote Control Parts for 1990 70HP Evinrude

I recently got a free pontoon boat - (1990 Lowe 245 24'). It has a 1990 70 HP Evinrude, and runs well after a little TLC.

Along with new carpet, new furniture, and some general wiring repair, I would like to rebuild the remote control. The sticker on the side mount unit shows OMC, and a part number of 174931 7 AQ. I can't find this anywhere on the web. I have usually had good luck with the BRP website, but the remote control they show is quite a bit different.

Would anybody know anything about this remote control?

For the most part, OMC, Johnson, and Evinrude controls of the same era, are interchangeable. OMC are no longer in business. A local dealer will have a replacement and there are plenty on craigslist and kijiji.

Yep, any "round red plug" OMC/BRP control box will do. There were a few from that era, different part numbers but they will all work. Some were white and made of steel, others were black and made of plastic. Some had the power trim switch built in, others didn't.

Should be easy to find a replacement, I've got 3 in my garage! They frequently pop up on craigslist around here.

I was really hoping to save the existing unit. There is really only a couple of pieces that need replacement. That is why I was hoping to find a listing for the remote control I have.

With all of the other expenses to get this boat running, I was hoping to "cheap out" on this. But, a day at the lake with my family is worth the cost!

I think I filled out all in the profile - I'll double check.

did you try looking at "shop evinrude .com" you can buy individual parts at this site all the way back to the 1960's Good luck in your search

It turns out that the remote control I have is called a "concealed side mount" remote control. It is OMC part number 0174930 (as an assembly).

It appears that a lot of parts interchange between this unit and the normal units I have found.

I have found the exploded parts views I was looking for.

After disassembling and cleaning the remote control, it seems to work just fine. I guess I'll find out when the boat goes in the water.
