I would like to set my 1961 evinrude 40hp model 35022 with a remote controller and need information on how to locate a controller, which one or ones will work and instructions on actual hook up. Wiring, throttle cable, shift cable etc. This motor was converted to tiller by previous owner but no remote parts exist that he knows of, so I'm starting from scratch.

35022 is a 1961 Big Twin, manual start, short shaft. Came from the factory with a tiller. Should be no wiring involved to add remote steering and controls, unless you want to locate the stop switch forward.

Keep in mind the tiller kit is hard to find for those '60s motors. Especially one in good condition. I would keep it just in case.

i would leave it intact, no reason to disassemble, the remote will connect without disturbing it. i've done it on many. and no need for kill switch with cables set up properly, you just pull back throttle and it dies. except for a safety lanyard.

yea, good idea. I seen one of your projects setup that way. A 40hp tiller motor are not too common (at least around me). Definitely worth keeping as an option in my opinion. I have a 33hp 1960's tiller w/electric start on my wish list.:)

As posted, it is not electric start. Could it be made electric with factory parts? I can leave the tiller as it is and have remote controls hooked up? yes, I would like pictures of your set ups.
