How the heck do you do the job with out pulling the engine or removing the risers and manifold
I have a 4.3 merc and the engine compartment is tight.

No easy way.But if it is that hard to change the filter where it is,it's worth the effort to install the remote kit.

I've only done 2 over the years.First one we pulled the manifold and riser, and still couldn't do correctly,so out came the engine.Second one we could do with the manifold/riser off.

No one thinks about these things when they buy a boat.Too bad because the feedback doesn't get back to the builder. The buyer just pays more and more for service. And HATES the Dealer.

Most, but not All boats are built so that there's Usually quite Alot of Boat that needs to be Removed before Any engine work can be Started........

That's Why the Labor is Soo High on Boats.......

Can't you Remove the Jump Seats, or Whatever happens to be In your way,..??...

Bond-o, are you factoring the waist factor ?

I've only gone up a bit in 20 years but my 36 inch waist won't go where the 33 used to.And if I get close, the shoulders don't work, because I used to have a 33 waist and could get in there.

If you can't get a remote oil filter in, what is going to happen when it is time to replace the starter? There has to be a way to remove enough stuff to get it done.

How do you get the oil filter off now?

There's always a way to remove enough stuff to get it done.Sometimes you have to remove the boat.Done it many times for starter work.

Bond-o, I didn't realize you were still a puppy.Next 7 years may amaze you.It did me.

I have a Merc 4.3LX and I had a remote oil filter installed to a more convenient location so I could get to it. Did the same with the water seperator / fuel filter. Changing them both is a snap.

Re: Remote Oil Filter 4.3 merc

Hey guys, I just ordered the kit for my 4.3L. I got so tired of taking forever to get the filter off and on and the mess with each oil change.

It sounds like its going to be more diffacult that I thought to put the kit on. Does anybody have any sort of instructions or some good pointers about where to start? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

My advice would be to cut to the chase. Remove everything that's in the way of working comfortably: back seat(s), batteries, hatch covers, etc.. Then it should be pretty straight forward.

You're really going to miss standing on your head and trying to get the riser to fit in your ear, though...;)

I installed the remote kit today on my Chaparral 190ssi. Had to remove the entire back seat and then it was a snap. Only took about 2 hours total. Deifnetly worth the money to not have to cram in their to try and get the filter out anymore.

I got lucky with my express cruiser. I went to get a new oil filter and the parts store didn't have the stock one so I said, "give me the longer one since I have plenty of room down there."
