On my 4.3 is it worth it or not to hook up the kit I have?
I can reach the filter on the block but it's TIGHT. Any pros or cons it seems to me that extra connection I would be worried about things coming loose. Plus I would have to take the riser & manifold off to do the job
and be confident everything was tight.
thanks ,Link.)

I just changed the oil tonight... I love my filter kit! No scrapped fingers, no oily mess! Did I mention I love it!

Using the proper pieces there is no worry of things coming apart.

I'd install the kit you have,if you plan on keeping the boat.If it's hard to get to now, wait 5 years, when you might have more aches and pains. That original filter will just get harder and harder to reach. It wil never get easier. If you have a Mercruiser kit,and it gets installed correctly, don't worry about it at all.

I agree with DPH 100% on that, those are well built kits and I haven't seen a problem with one in over 10 years. I should also tell you that I have replace several engines and removed some cheap aftermarket kits that even JC Whitney wouldn't be caught selling. Those are junk, don't use them on your boat. It could very well cost you an engine.

My dealer charges $35 to change oil & filter. The Merc kit is about $200. Add in the savings on oil and filter I don't have to buy and I can take it to the dealer for 7 or 8 years and save my 71 year old fingers and ribs!

Re: remote oil filter kit

Thanks for the input ,I have the Merc kit now the question is install it myself or let the dealer do it.
The dealer has a gauranty of workmanship, I can do it,doesen't seem that hard of a job to do it in boat I'll have to pop off the riser and manifold to access filter area to do the job otherwise I'll need joint replacement on my right arm.
