Background:
I bought a very nice 1990 larson senza 210 because it had a cracked block and exhaust manifolds. Came with 350 mag and alpha 1 outdrive. Boat only has 102 original hours. I got a remanufactured long block and am going back together with things currently.
An interesting part that also freeze cracked (water in oil) is the cap for the remote oil reservoir, located under the engine where an oil filter typically mounts. The cap was only sold in the reservoir kit, that is now discontinued. I found a couple online, but $100 just for a used cap or $300 for the kit is out of question. I attached the part diagram so you can see what kit I have.
Question:
Both options kind of defeat the convenience purpose, but what would you do?
1) Use the remote reservoir kit but use an oil filter in place of the cap (it threads on and looks like it would work). Clearance isn't an issue. Is flow an issue? If so I could use a less restrictive racing filter underneath and a finer particle filter up top.
2) Take off the remote reservoir and use a standard filter mount (I have one).
