I think I saw a thread about this here a month or so ago, but can't find it now. Could anyone give me easy directions to dismantle the back of my boat. I got the outdrive off, no problem, but I'm thinking I might have to use a saw to get it off the transom. I need to take off the bellhousing, gimble, hydraulic pump, steering, etc. I'm familiar with outboards, not inboards and I need to remove all this as I am scrapping the boat. Found a buyer, but now I need to remove his parts. Thanks for any help.

First question... What are you working on? Year, hp, serial number, ect...

If it's an Alpha system set up, then once the drive is off you need to remove the engine. Once that's done, disconnect the steering cable, trim hoses, exhaust pipe. The 6 or 8 nuts and the inner transom plate comes away, then just push the gimbal housing off the transom... I have probably left a few small items out of the list, but that's the basics....

Have a look at my demolition thread listed in my signature. I have some pictures in there of me taking off the pieces you describe.

Thanks, Struc's thread is quite similar to what I need. Needed a traailer and engine parts. Picked up a boat with a "brand new" (yea right) engine with a cracked block last ran 2 years ago, last licensed in 2005. Most of the interior is trashed, Wanted to take the outdrive and everything behind the engine off before I sat it on the ground and started destruction. I have now sold everything behind the engine if I can get it off. Didn't count on pulling the engine yet, but sounds like I will this weekend. Gotta go to work now. 3 more years and 3 more months. I've been threatening to cut it out of the transom and give the guy the fiberglass and everything. You asked about an isolator on the first page, if you haven't found out, it's an electrical piece to allow you to charge 2 or more batteries at a time with the alternator, one primary, and only draw on whichever is hooked up. Another words hook your electric trolling motor up to a spare battery and run it down too low, you still have your main battery to start the engine. No switching of anything. Ran them on Pickups for years.

Oh, I missed the first of your achris It's an alpha (I think) mercruiser power trim gear ratio 1.50R and serial number 5136133. I typed that in a search, and it said alpha 1. It's off a 79 fiberform with a cracked block, 350. Interior is trashed, and decking is rotted to where I think I may fall thru, reeks of mold. Hull is in surprisingly good shape. I wanted the trailer and parts off the engine to fit my 350, edlebrock carb, intake manifold, starter, alternator, good wiring with plugs, mine is a mess, but not sure I want to start that, etc. I was hoping to sit it on the ground before I pulled the engine as I think I have to rip out some decking to get to the mounts.
