I'm in the process of replacing the wood, vinyl, and carpet in my 92 Searay BR200. In the process, i've found a small soft spot under the port side bucket seat.

I've read many of the posts here with regard to cutting out the floor and checking for additional rot, etc.

My question is...do I need to drain or even remove my gas tank before i begin to cut out this small soft spot in the floor to determine if I have additional rot there.

My tank appears to be in very good shape and is in the floor with a covered access panel.

Thanks,

Jeff

Where is the spot in relationship to the spot you are going to cut out. As long as you won't be cutting directly above it you should be in good shape.

Set the saw at a shallow depth too. Maybe 1/2" to start. Be careful not to cut the hull or tank.

The tank is in the floor in the center of the boat and has a removable access panel...so I won't be cutting over the tank.

The spots I'll be cutting are direcly to the side of the tank on both the starboard and port sides. As it turns out I have rot that started under both the bucket seats (driver/captain and co-captain chairs) and has moved towards the back of the boat.

You should be good, set your saw depth to just barely go through the floor. I've seen lots of rips right through the bottom of a hull. Not too pretty if you ask me.

Keep us posted to how your project is going.
