This may be a silly question.......... and might not even be possible, I will try to explain it the best I can I am unsure what to call all of the parts and pieces.

Here's the scenario I am doing an engine swap should be pretty straight forward going from a 89 Mariner 115HP L4 to a 84 Mercury 115HP TOP is there anyway to leave the transom mounting bracket and the tilt/trim in place and just literally pull the motor and slap the TOP on in its place? Can this be done by removing the tilt tube? I would like to be able to do this without unbolting the mounting bracket but will go that route if what I am asking is not an option.

Thanks.

I would think you would need to swap powerheads, to leave the PTT behind. I am not sure if that is possible. Alternatively, you may be able to swap swivel brackets and transom brackets.
