Remove engine Volvo penta 4.3 Gl vortec with sx out drive

I just bough a 1995 Sea pro 210wa with Volvo penta 4.3 gl throw a rod, oil and water mixed. Trying 3 days remove motor and not out yet. First I remove all bell housing bolts and thinking of leaving it in, the engine come off about 1 inch one side and 1/2 inch other side and no more, so I decided to remove the sx out drive. I remove all 6 nuts and disconnect the shift level cotter pin, the out drive not coming out too.
What did I do wrong? Please guide me to do right. Thanks for reading and any help is apreciated!

You leave the bellhousing on the engine. Remove the outdrive (The EZ part of the job)
Disconnect hoses, cables, wires, fuel line from engine.
Remove lag bolts holding front engine mounts to stringer.
Remove 2 nuts and large flat washer holding flywheel cover (Bellhousing) to transom plate.
Disconnect hoses for exhaust.
Lift engine out.

Thanks for your reply Don,
I though remove out drive is EZ part like when I remove the mecruiser alpha1 but this one is not. The sx drive not coming out at all and I have no idea if anything else not out beside 6 nuts and shift linkage. What could I have not done? Thanks,

You have to remove the connector and locknut from the shift cable end.



Could also be corroded around the 6 mounting studs, or frozen into the gimbal bearing or coupler.

ive just gone through the same experience, the mechanic ended up having to take the bell housing off and then destroy the bell housing to get the drive free, apparently lack of proper servicing procedures, a replacement bell housing has not a cheap option here in Australia but we had no other choice

Although you say you have "and disconnect the shift level cotter pin" You did not mention the shift cable outer, which also needs freeing (little opening just below & Fwd of the lower of the 3 nut on the starboard side). The Trim/Tilt cylinder cross pin also needs to be removed.

I ended up remove u joint c ring and remove 2 cups, reperated the u joint and took the drive out yesterday. I will continue get some ways to take the shaft out today. It's difficult but I got some things done yesterday. Thanks to all!
