What is the best way to remove the tilt piston shaft? I have to replace the tilt cylinder band, because the fitting broke off. I have a 1988 85hp Force motor with tilt & trim. I have tried to knock the shaft in with a punch and hammer but the tilt shaft does not move. I have tried the same method to move the trim shaft to no avail. Any HELP Thanks, SY

The old fitting should come out of the band very easy, install new fitting in old band.

The old band has already been removed. It was seperated and I pulled it off the piston and threw it away.

Well in that case, rais engine as high as it will go, block engine with block of wood under gear case, remove pin that holds tilt at top, then rais engine higher, unscrew top of cylinder, with heat and spanner wrench, remove tilt rod and piston. I dont think the band will go over the clevis on the end of the tilt rod. If it does you will not have to remove the tilt rod from the cylinder.

The band did fit over the clevis, but I had to destroy the bushing over the assist piston to get the piston shaft off. Both bushings are in bad shape anyway. I will have to get new bushings. What type of transmission fluid should I use to re-fill the trim/tilt system? How should I accomplish the re-fill? Thanks SY

Seloc: Trim and Tilt-9-6.<br />Quote: "Do not use automatic transmission fluid because such fluid contains a high degree of detergent agents that could cause the internal seal to prematurely wear and fail". Unquote.<br />Bud

Anyone know where I can get a new rubber bushing for the tilt cylinder? The auto parts store does not have what I need. I do not know what the 1988 85hp model number is. There is a white tag on the transom mount but there is no numbers on the tag.

I got an automotive motor mount bushing from the auto parts store. I had to trim the rubbber bushing down, hope that works. Should I fill the trim/tilt motor with 10W-30 motor oil, while the motor is in the up position or while the motor is in the down position? Should I loosen one of the lines while filling to let the air out? Thanks SY
