I am trying to troubleshoot my '87 120 on my own but am very new to this stuff so I am not sure what things are supposed to look like etc. and am hoping you guys can tell me if everything looks decent..what I can or should clean up and if there is any sort of tests I can now do without having the DVA adapter yet.
So my questions are:
1. Does anything in the following photos stand out as looking bad with the stator or timer base? Rust, dings, etc.?
2. Can I clean these parts and remove rust and grease? or is there anything I should NOT do? what to use etc.?
3. Can I do any diagnosis now without having a DVA adapter? I am looking to buy one but will have to be online I guess.
- I have the digital and analog testers pictured below..but really have no experience using them for diagnosis.
4. If I take the timer base off does it have to go on exactly like it was removed?..does the position affect timing?
Here are the first set of photos..more to come:
