Hi I removed a VRO Pump from a 1990 70 hp rude. Rather than pluging the oil hose I replaced the vro pump with a standard fuel pump. Question is does this pump need to be rigid or can it just hang on the 3 fuel lines? there wasn't any holes to mount it.
steve

Re: Removed VRO Pump Replaced with Fuel Pump Questions

It is advisable to have a bracket for the pump.Less likely to have hose chaffing problems which lead to leaks.I understand that you should have been able to get a conventional pump that comes complete to bolt up.The one you got must have been the least expensive way to go and if it were mine ,I would just fabricate a suitable bracket.Either that ,or return it and pay a few more skins for the retro fit pump.

FYI,The vro pump actually works quite well as a conventional 50:1 pumper as long as the unit will pump.Blanking off the oil inlet would also be a site easier than fabricating a bracket or installing a new unit.

To add to what OB said, my dealer told me that the OMC original VRO fuel pumps were among the best. So, as OB said, you may just want to disconnect the old VRO oil side and run it as a conventional fuel pump. Only takes about 15-20 Minutes to do..

This fuel pump came off my other 70 rude it would mount if there was a place for it. I can make my own bracket to mount it but just was ask if it had to be rigid to operate. The vro pump is going to another motor.
steve

A dealer may have one from a scrap motor or you can try a marine salvage yard if you dont want to order one.
