Hi all,

I'm in the process of removing a 3.0L Mercruiser that needs some work (rust, starter motor issues).

The problem I have is that the engine bay area is pretty tight in the Maxum. I think I need to remove the exhaust elbow first, which will give me some room to lift the engine. Does anyone have any ideas about the exhaust section.

The flaw with the plan is that the bolt holding the exhaust elbow to the manifold is completely rusted, I've attached a photo after about 2 hours of cleaning and penetrating oil, may be resorting to freezing soon. I've also attached an image of the exhaust "pipe"? is anyone knows how to get that off, I've already loosened the jubilee clips.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... Use a hose pick, or screwdriver to break the rubber's bond to the riser, 'n lift the motor out, with the riser still attached to the motor,...

Thanks Bondo, good to be here.

The seal is broken and I can move it around a little bit in place. I'll have a go at the bottom jubilee clips so see if I can get the hose down and clear of the riser.

I need to bring the engine forward about 2" before I can go up, (got about an 1" clearance on the rear part of the cap.)

may want to sacrifice the riser at the worst case. try hammering on a slightly smaller metric socket ,be sure to use 6 point sockets. Also have the manifold and riser availavle

+1 with BT Doc on the riser, woops elbow (yes chris I remembered) :D

Edit: I have a feeling it will need replacing by the looks of the rust

Thanks guys, I suspect that will be the case so may sacrifice the riser, manifold has probably gone too.

The engine is run in saltwater, and where most of this rust is has actually dripped in through the engine cover from people getting in and out of the water. Going to be making a 1/2 pipe / gutter to run along the join for next seaon.
