OK, so I have the dreaded closed up water feed grommet.

The engine is off. The five bolts are out. The Allen screw has its head drilled off. The two M12 top steering bolts are our. The gear linkage is out.

Whatever I do, I cannot separate the adaptor plate. I thought I was an engineer!

Help?

Thanks

Dave

Re: Removing 60 efi adaptor plate removal

In fact it was inseparable, even with a torch and hammer and chisel!

I pondered on this, long and hard. As the 2004 engine only had 200 hours on it, the fault had not shown up in the warrantee period, or in the concessionary period. I proposed to Mercury UK that this engine had "fallen out" of the system and a good will gesture might be appropriate.

Tim Bennett the UK importers service manager, a man who gives training courses and has worked for Barrus for well over 20 years, listened with a sympathetic ear.

I was offered a brand new replacement engine for my 2004 model at little over half retail price, and with a 5 year warrantee. Even fitting and PDI was included if I let them have my old engine. Garry Stevens from Mobile Marine in Axminster did all the work. Garry seems to trouble shoot for Mercury and has all the diagnostic tools and covers all of the West Country and more.

This is a very satisfactory solution and hats off to Mercury for their responsible and caring attitude!
