I was thinking about trying to add a coat of black paint to my painted aluminum window frames, and then it dawned on me... Why not just remove the paint on the outside, and polish it yearly to a shine?

What's the best way to remove that old black oxidized paint, and polish the frames?

I think it would look nice with shiny aluminum, you think?

Elbow grease ! :)
If you want to make it shine you will have to sand all the paint off then start with say 100 grit then work your way down to 1200 or 2000 grit . Put some Mothers aluminum polish on the 2000 like wet sanding . It's a lot of work but it can be made to look like chrome ..
We started a thread on polishing aluminum a while back and there is some good tips there . For some reason I can't post a link from the forum .
Might try the search feature .. Good luck !!

Well, the other option is to get easy, and just roll on a coat of black Rustoleum Professional enamel with a mini-roller, and call it good. Gotta admit, that Rustoleum Professional enamel is pretty tough stuff.

Some years ago I had the window frames on my Baja blasted and powder coated. Turned out great and very durable.

I think you can get stripper to remove the anodizing if you plan to polish by hand.

Hmmm didn't think about the anodizing . Do a small section . Take the paint off and rub some Mothers on . If it turns black it's not anodized . Or like ya said the much easier way would be to repaint ...
