The previous owner of my boat made a sorry attempt at painting on a blue tapered stripe just above the rub rail. It looks like crap and I need it gone. The boat is an 19-6 aquasport cuddy, the part of the hull that the stripe was put on is just white gell coat. The PO told me the paint is just some one paint marine paint he got from boat us, he brushed it on.

How can I get rid of it. I have thought about repainting the entire above the rub rail portion of the boat. But I really dont have the time or funds currently. Is their any stripper avilable that would pull it completely off with out damaging the gel coat?

thanks
Tony

You could try sanding wqith say 240 grit paper very lightly. Then once you have cleared the paint you could use water and 1000 grit paper then 1500 the polishing compound.

thanks I will give it a try, the only problem I see is that its looks as if the paint has penetrated the pores of the gel coat. I was thinking a strippper of some sort, but not if it will damage the gell coat or integrity of the fiberglass.

tony
