Removing cap and liner?

I have a 1985 walkaround cabin that needs the floor replaced. Can I remove the cap and then remove the liner, flip the liner over, remove all rotten wood, glass in the replacement floor from the bottom and reinstall the liner? Am I correct in saying that is how the boat was originally built? I have access to the necessary hoists to lift everything. I will also check the stringers and transom while everything is apart.

As long as you can retain the original dimensions. Things distort when taken apart and may not go together right.

some w/a in the 80s only had a liner for the cuddy portion.......................the cap was sidewalled into the floor......................IF this is the case with your boat I would just cut out the floor, replace the floor and retab into the cap/sidewall. Very easy.

Bert, As JEEL said, most if not all of the floor may be in the bottom mold. The floor of the cap may just sit on top of it. If you do want to lift the cap off, you might want to put some 2X6 planks under it every few feet to keep it straight.

After you remove the cap and cut out the floor of the hull, it to will want to distort. You may need to take some measurements or biuld a brace to keep the hull from collapsing or expanding.

The boat is a Sea Ox, I pretty sure the floor and cabin are all 1 piece. I can feel under the cap almost all the way around, and it appears that it is a 1 piece unit that is sat down in the hull. No too sure how to seperate it at the transom, it's probably glassed it that area.

The pros I consult with suggested I cut my cabin floor leaving a 11/2-2 inch lip from the origional liner,If it is cored and rotted you need to remove the core.Then fabricate "stringers" to run the length of the cabin and crossbraces front and rear and laminate as you would in stringer lay-up,gelcoat and lav the new floor screwing it into the grid you created.We did this on the cabin floor of our Carver we are refitting.
