Fixed the leaky fuel line and ran the motor for a little with the lower unit off and the water tube hooked up to the hose. Water is clearly exiting from somewhere other than the exhaust tube so I have decided to start pulling the powerhead tomorrow. Wish me luck!

When I first had the overheating problem I went to a mechanic. He said that under the powerhead there was an exhaust plate that often cracks. He said that some times the cracks are hard to see. If that is the case I think you could get water and or exhaust in places it is not supposed to be.
Keep us posted. One thing for sure. When you get it back together you will have confidence that it is all right. Its nice to hvae peace of mind when you are on the water.

Are you talking about the water pump gasket or the powerhead gasket?

I have replaced the exhaust gaskets, the powerhead gasket and water pump gaskets and have not used gasket sealer on any of them. That being said, your motor is different than mine and I would do what the manual calls for.

Just printed up information from the general manual available online for my engine. Powerhead removal begins tonight. If it is cracked, is that something that could be welded? I doubt I would be able to find another.

Well...the power head is off! What a grand ol time that was. No obvious cracks/holes and it's hard to tell by looking at the gasket. Maybe you guys will notice something.

One question, how does this come off?
