please help.i need to know how to remove the gearcase for a 1983 johnson 70hp long shaft.thanks

Disconnect the shift rod and the bolts connecting the gearcase to the mid section and it should drop right down. Many have a bolt under the trim tab. A shop maqnual will be a big help.

having trouble locating the shift rod, I have very little knowledge of outboards, we have the manual, but still no help.

As I stated in your first thread that was deleted ,the shift rod disconnect is located under the lower carburetor area.I also mentioned that you will need to have the engine in the tilted up position once you are ready to drop the lower unit.Make sure that you disconnect the shift rod before removing all of the joint bolts.This will prevent binding the shift linkage.
