Removing Lower Bearing From Crank & Replacing

Rebuilding 1997 Yamaha 150HP 2 stroke S150TXRV powerhead.<br />( Click here to view updated blog with new pictures )<br /><br />Clymer manual says "Install a universal puller plate....Use a piece of hard plastic or wood to protect the crank surface from the press. Suport the crank and operate the press to push the crank from the bearing....<br /><br />Where do I get one of these universal puller plates? I don't think I can use the puller I used for removal of the flywheel but not sure.<br /><br />Secondly, book does not describe how to install lower bearing. HELP. <br /><br />Thanks.

It is not really what you would think of as a puller, an adjustable plate to press bearings off with. Sort of like a pie plate with an adjustment for size. Parts house item. You press it back on.

easiest way to reinstall it is to heat it with a heat lamp or toaster oven then making sure the numbers on the bearing face the correct way slip it on while hot I have seen it done with a fry daddy set at 275*F as well but its much messier.

I picked up a beauty of a used crank today for $500 (with bearing and oil pump gear) decribed and appeared as "low hours". Lower bearing is tighter and no rough operation. <br /><br />So I suppose no need to transfer out lower bearings. Let me know if you disagree...<br /><br />Thanks for the info.

mains rarely do, bottom bearing suports an axial AND radial load, they fail.<br />bottom is ball and the rest are roller.

I don't know if the 2.6L crank is the same in 1987 as it is in 1997, but I have a mint crank w'bearings for sale on ebay $225. <br /><br /> http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZreelQ5fadventure <br /><br />

Thanks...it looks the same, but, my engine is all back together now. That is a good price even without the bearings. You should be able to find someone to buy that no problem. Shoot, maybe I'll bid on it for a spare, lol.<br /><br />Why are you parting out your eng...did you blow somefin on the port side?
