Okay, first let me say that I have the OEM Factory Service Manual. It does NOT explain how to remove the lower cowl.

On mine, I took out 3 bolts that hold the halves together, and removed the retainer clip that holds onto the lower cover stud at the rubber mounts.

Is there another bolt/screw/retainer besides those mentioned? How do I split the halves without damage, as they don't seem to wanna move, and I don't want to break one?

HELP !

I just looked at a parts break down and I can only find three screws also. Give the covers a good rap once and see what happens. They may be stuck on the rubber mounts.

I tried to wedge a flat screwdriver between the halves at the parting line, but they didn't seem to want to move. I doubt this cover was ever taken off, and being almost 30 years old, I don't know that the seals between the halves are stuck, or there's something that mounts them that I've missed. I'm going to try a little WD-40 on the parting line, and on the rubber mounts, to see if it's just stuck from age. All the rubber looks to be in really good shape, and I hoped not to damage anything taking this off for repainting the motor.

Thanks

Well, it's OFF!

I looked again, and WD-40 on the parting line and the rubber mounts, and found THERE ARE FOUR SCREWS holding the halves together, NOT THREE.

With the removal of the 4th screw, it popped open without issues.

Thanks for the help.

Well, I guess that's the difference between you being there and myself being on a computer. Glad you got it.

Worst part was that I was looking at the parts drawing on-line, and saw only the 3 bolts. I missed the one that is second from the back, and is about 6" long but under the pan near the mid-section area. I'm glad I didn't force it more than I did, because it popped right off once ALL the bolts were removed.

Thanks for the input.
