A question for the "gods of Iboats"! :D
I am about to remove the lower end on my 71 Johnson 60, 3 Cyl electric shift.
I know that the wires for the shift should pull down through the engine, and I know the trick about tying a piece of wire to 'em so you can pull them back up.
My question is this.... there's a seal on those wires where they come up from the lower end into the powerhead, I presume to keep exhaust out of that area. Does that seal pull right down with no problem when you pull off the gearcase? A friend told me he did one of these once and the wires would not budge, he ended breaking them from pulling too hard and was not happy about it.
Any tricks to make sure this part of the job goes easy?

Thanks all

Craig

Try some lubrication Craig. Anything to make the rubber slipperyier...(is that a word????) No doubt the hole is small and it can be hard to get the harness down through it but patience is the word. If the lube don't work, prod it with a thin screw drive. It'll go through.

Dish soap makes a great lube for rubber. Stay away from anything petroleum based.
