Removing lower unit of outboard

I am attempting to change a impeller on a Mercury tracker marine 115hp 4cyl outboard. I took off the bolts, but noticed that the lower unit fits in pretty snug. Question: is there a special tool or procedure for removing lower unit or just beat it off with a sledge hammer or rubber mallet.

Don't beat on the cavitation plate, or it will break.<br /><br />Make sure you removed all bolts, and shiftshaft, apply penetrating oil. Gently persuade.
