Hello I am trying to get the motor out of my boat so i can fix the oil pan gasket!! It now has new heads , new cam shaft and new maifold risers.
When the mechanic( a friend of mine put the timing chain cover back he messed up the oil pan and it leaks so I have to pull the motor to fix. I diconnected everything but when I get to it I can't get the motor to go forward??? I removed all the bolts on the back after I took the top of the outdrive off......motor mounts etc and we can't move the motor forward...just side to side.......any Help would be appreciated Thanks

Does one have to take out the bolts on the bell housing or just the clamp ring like the book says??????

Just the bolts in the clamp ring. The flywheel cover stays on the engine.

once you get the bolts off the clamp ring in the back, try to get the ring and gasket off. Mine was pretty stuck. I ended up raising the motor a little so the weight was off the front mounts and then using a 2x4 and mallet I gave the bell housing some good whacks. Not sure if it was the right way, but it broke free.

Oh make sure that you have disconnected the green grounding wire behind the motor. Mine was really short. this could be holding your drive in.

yeah, the intermediate unit going through the sheild can be stuck in there pretty good. when we seperated ours we had to disconnect at the bell housing to lift the engines out, then later chisel the clamp ring out and hammer the intermediate unit out of the transom sheild...
