Try a hair dryer to heat them up. Try to carefully grab a corner with a razorblade and peal as you heat it.

You did not say how old they were. They could be brittle with age and uv exposure. That would make them pretty tough to get off.

It is a 1970 Johnson, so the stickers are 33 years old, don't know about brittle but all the color has peeled off just leaving the silver backing, I need to get them off so i can repaint the cover.

Re: Removing motor stickers???(Help)

When I tried to take the stickers off my '76 35hp, I had a lot of problems. :( They weren't even stickers anymore, more like they were painted on. There was no way to peel them off, so I tried a razor scraper in a samll area. The stuff came off in dust. I wound up scraping them off carefully and repainting the hood. Hope this helps.

I used boiling water. Soak them really well, and use an ice scrapper, gently, just keep the stickers very hot, be carefull not to burn yourself. Works great and nothing to clean up.
Stan

I've not tried to remove older stickers like this but WD-40 has worked for me on stickers to break down the adhesive. Spray it on and let it soak, rub it off with a cloth while using more spray, then wash off the WD-40. It's worth a try. If it works, there would be little to no scratches. Good Luck.

Since you're going to repaint it anyway-

Oftentimes Easy-off oven cleaner will work.

Once you get down to just having the old adhesive left on it, if the cover is fiberglass and not plastic-

Lacquer thinner often will break it down. Its still going to be a mess, use plenty of thinner & rags.

You can 'soak' the area by keeping rags on it wet with thinner for a hour or so to soften the glue.

I don't know When, But way back when, they were Decals, Not Stickers........
Sand them Off.....
You've got to sand the cover before you Paint it Anyway...............

I think mine were decals, thats why they were so thin.

Thanks for all the help guys, going to give it a whirl the first of the week, here in okla we also have state registration sticker we have to put on the port side and back of the cover, few years of those on there too, no idea why we have to put them on the cover, if someone steals the motor they just toss the cover and get another one.
