Removing Seat Boxes on a 1991 Bayliner Capri

I'm currently restoring a 1991 Bayliner Capri (open bow). While removing the old flooring, I discovered the flotation foam has been completely compromised (soaking wet all the way through) and needs to be replaced. The seat boxes themselves are in very poor condition as well. I know that many people recommend against removal of the seat boxes because they're glassed in to both the floor and sides to provide rigidity to the boat. That being the concern couldn’t I just glass in stringers from the ones running the length of the boat to the sides as seen in the pic to keep the rigidity intact? I’d also be glassing the perimeter of the floor to the sides as well. The loss of the seat boxes is not a concern as I intend on installing pedestal seating anyway. Thoughts? Thanks

Note: The picture is not of my boat, I’m just using it as a visual reference to what I’d like to do.

Welcome to iBoats . . .

Post some pictures of your boat when you can for more specific input. Not sure how much strength/rigidity was coming from the seat boxes, but there are certainly alternatives that will work, particularly if you are changing up the type of seating.
