Anyone have any tricks to removing the clear household type silicone sealer? Some was used to seal some items on my boat in the past and I need to remove it so I can sand/paint. Will anything dissolve it? It's not very thick, but it won't peal off.

JasonB:Since your sanding and painting the area could you consider gently lifting/removing it w/a razor scraper?I have a lot of luck removing various adhesives/paints/stickers/etc this way.Sometimes you can follow up w/a gentle solvent for residual stuff or coarse sandpaper will clear rest. What do you think?

JasonB<br /> Try Goof-Off...at your local Home Depot, Wal-Mart...get the heavy stuff off first...finger nail or old credit card...something plastic...so you don't scratch the surface...use goof-off mildly...it takes everything off...good luck

DAP (Dow Corning) has a silicone remover. It looks, smells and feels like axel grease & comes in a little plastic jar like a medicine bottle. I picked it up at a local building store & it worked ok, after mechanically removing as much silicone as reasonably possible. I remember it was not very volitile, and I think it said it could be used on plastics (fiberglass tubs & surrounds).
