I recently purchaed a 1995 ASTRO CC and will be replacing the floor. The previous owner sprayed bedliner on the floor and up the sides. Any idea on how do best remove the bedliner would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to tell you spray on bed liner is permanent. The only way to remove it would be to grind it off and i wouldn't recommend that on a fiberglass boat unless your ready for major work. You could install carpet over it.

I am going to rebuild the whole floor and decking in the boat down to the stringers and and going to refiberglass so I may try the grinder. Could I possibly put a layer of resin only over it to create a smooth surface again??

BTW: it will come off slowly with a flat head screw driver or a sharpened putty knife. may just do the teadious. 1 sq ft a night.

Angle grinder and a bunch of coarse discs.

It comes off fairly well using an angle grinder fitted with a coarse cupped wire wheel. Makes one heck of a mess though.

Good question to post.

Lots of people really want to use that stuff on their boats.

Some of the guys I off-road with have their vehicles painted with that stuff. One way they have successfully removed it is with a grinder. Another way was to soak the material with brake fluid and scrape it off (not something I recommend in a boat).

Re: Removing spray on bedliner from Fiberglass

So I made the rounds tonight to a few of my friends' houses and a few of my dad's friends. Picked up quite a number of different grinding wheels, buffers, steel cups and sanding discs will test on part of the decking that needs to come out anyway. Will probably do this tomorrow night and report back on what works best.

Will Start a Restoration thread with pics while I am at it.

I wonder how an electric heat gun would work?

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner.

I have good news and better news. The Coarse cupped wire wheel works like a charm. The people who sprayed the liner in did a terrible job prepping the fiberglass. (good for me) After I started grinding the liner started coming off like sunburnt skin
