I have to remove the starter from my 1987 60 HP merc. The pinion shaft will not stay raised while spinning. I can't find my selco manual, is it an easy procedure?? Not sure if I have to take that plastic cover off the carbs to pull it out or not. Ty's for any advice ;)

Re: Removing Starter from 60HP

ok, I swapped the starters out but didn't pay attention to the wiring. I know the yellow wire from the solenoid goes on the bottom connection of the starter, but I have a black pigtail that bolts onto the top of the starter, I think the other end was bolted to the starter housing?? Then the other black wire the comes out near the remote wires connected to the bottom post with the yellow wire?? Does this sound right?
