Need to do this this weekend on a 16' runabout. Motor end emerges from the side of the splash well and the steel bar is pretty rusty. Is there any trick to this? I was thinking I would just hammer it out of the tube and then gradually pull it out of the splash well.

Re: removing steering cable

That's generally how it's done Dave. Just hope you have enough room to pull/push it out on the starboard side of the tilt tube. If not, you may have to unbolt the motor and slide it to port. Even if you hacksaw it off(which has been done a lot)You're gonna need room to slide the new one back.
I personally elongated the hole in my splashwell so I could have a straight shot to pull it out.

Dave

thanks Dave, I'll bring a hacksaw just in case but I want to save the cable if I can.
