I am in the process of removing my enginer to do some transom work, but cannot get the steering line out of the engine. What is the secret to this bugger??? I keep pulling on it yet it stops.

ANY help would be appreciated!

THANK YOU!

If you have removed the control arm that connects to the motor and the nut on the starboard side of the motor the tube should slide out the starboard side. I don't know of anything else that holds it............Jerry

RUST, crud, corrosion hold them. try PB blaster to free it, if not then, turn the steer wheel so the shaft is all the way in. then take a block of wood, put on the end of the shaft and tap, then tap harder. be careful not to mushroom the head of the shaft. if it gets even with the tilt tube, and still won't come out, get a drift pin. (rod about the same size) and drive it on thru. the only way to get one out.

After you get it out, use a shotgun cleaning brush or a similar round brush to clean the tube. Apply plenty 2-4-C when re-installing the steering cable.
Good luck!

Hmm didnt seem so crudded up. But I guess teh grease built up inside the thing. It pulls out until the wider part of the shaft starts to get inot the tube. Guess I will de-crud the tube more.

Thanks for your help! I just didnt want to ruin the steerling line/cable.
